Depression Forces Our Mind to be More Focus

Why do people get depressed? At first glance, the answer seems obvious: the mind, like the flesh, is prone to malfunction. Once that malfunction happens — perhaps it’s an errant gene triggering a shortage of some happy chemical — we sink into a emotional stupor and need medical treatment. But this pat explanation obscures a lingering paradox of depression, which is that the mental illness is extremely common. Every year, approximately 7 percent of us will be afflicted by the god-awful mental state that William Styron described as a “gray drizzle of horror . . . a storm of murk.” Obsessed with our pain, we will retreat from everything. We will stop eating, unless we start eating too much. Sex will lose its appeal; sleep will become a frustrating pursuit. We will always be tired, even though we will do less and less. We will think a lot about death.

In recent years, a small cadre of researchers has begun exploring this apparent paradox, trying to understand why states of such extreme sadness are so widespread. (The prevalence of depression exists in stark contrast with every other mental illness – schizophrenia, for example, is seen in less than 1 percent of the population.) I wrote about two of these researchers, Andy Thomson at the University of Virginia and Paul Andrews of Virginia Commonwealth, in the Times Magazine last year. The startling speculation behind their theory revolves around the purpose of rumination, the thought process that defines depression. (The verb is derived from the Latin word for “chewed over,” which describes the act of digestion in cattle, in which they swallow, regurgitate and then rechew their food.) In recent decades, psychiatry has come to see rumination as a dangerous mental habit, because it leads people to fixate on their flaws and problems, thus extending their negative moods. The bleakness of this thought process helps explain why, according to the Yale psychologist Susan Nolen-Hoeksema, people with “ruminative tendencies” are more likely to become depressed. They’re also more likely to become unnerved by stressful events: for instance, Nolen-Hoeksema found that residents of San Francisco who self-identified as ruminators showed significantly more depressive symptoms after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

3-D Map of 3 Billion Year Old Universe

Using light from 14,000 distant yet powerful cosmic beacons, astronomers have pieced together the largest and most detailed 3-D map of the ancient universe.

Previous versions plotted the locations of galaxies within 7 billion light-years of Earth. The new version, however, charts clouds of hydrogen in a swath between 10 billion and 12 billion light-years away — farther in distance and deeper in time than any 3-D map before it.

The hydrogen clouds could help answer some of astronomers’ more profound questions about the universe, including the nature of dark energy.

“We’re looking for a bump in the data that may tell us how fast universe is expanding,” said cosmologist Anže Slosar of Brookhaven National Laboratory, one of the researchers who presented the map May 1 at the American Physical Society meeting in Anaheim, California. “We don’t have enough data to see the bump yet, but we expect to get there in a few years.”

The Mystery of The Last Supper

The Last Supper

Professor Colin Humphreys, a scientist at the University of Cambridge believes that doing this research, so far there has been chaos calendar. What he had found, strengthening the proposals to determine the exact date of Easter Day.

Humphreys research uses a combination of scripture, history and astronomy to determine the conditions and time of Jesus' last supper with the twelve disciples, before his death. Researchers previously confused with the Bible that are considered inconsistent.

The Bible writes, Matthew, Mark and Luke stated the Last Supper took place to coincide with the beginning of the Jewish Passover festival. Meanwhile, John wrote, it happened before the Jewish Passover.

Related to this, Humphreys says that Jesus, Matthew, Mark and Luke may use a different calendar with John. According to him, he followed the old Jewish calendar, not the solar calendar used a lively time of his death until today.

"Whatever you think about the Bible, in fact, Jews could not be one held a Passover with other entertainment. So when the documents that describe the life of Jesus (Gospel) against each other, then this will be more difficult to understand, "said Humphreys.

Through the book titled The Mystery of The Last Supper, he said many of the scripture which states Gospel totally unreliable for this reason. However, Humphreys feels, the result would be different if science combined with the Gospel. "Even in the end, we can find that there is no contradiction," he said.

If so, then the Jewish Passover and Last Supper equally happened on Wednesday. This explains why so many incidents happened between last Entertaining up to the crucifixion. Jesus through the detention, interrogation and trial, which apparently can not happen overnight.

"A date for determining Easter Day appeared in the modern calendar. Based on the crucifixion that occurred on April 3, then Easter Day will fall every 5 April, "he said.

A Woman Who Can't Stop Eating Sofa

Adele Edwards eat the sofa!

A mother-of-five has been diagnosed with a rare disorder called Pica after seeking medical help for her addiction... to eating sofas.

Adele Edwards, of Bradenton, Florida, has been eating the foam inside couch cushions for 21 years.

She sought help when the cravings started getting out of control.

Miss Edwards, 31, said: 'In the last year I’ve eaten seven sofas.

'I unzip the cushions and snack on the foam inside. And once I start I just can’t stop.
'But now doctors have told me that if I carry on, my addiction will kill me.'

Pica is a disorder found most commonly in toddlers and pregnant women who lack certain nutrients, causing them to crave non-nutritive substances like chalk, coins, batteries and even dirt.

Sometimes it’s caused by stress, and Adele admits her first time happened during a very emotional period in her life, when her parents were on the brink of divorce.

Dog Also Need A Diet

By Daily Mail Reporter

Cassie splats on the floor and looks out of breath after years of being allowed to gorge on junk food - including fish and chips, takeaways - and roast dinners.

The seven-year-old border collie, who weighs three time more than she should, had never eaten normal dog food before she was taken in by the Dog's Trust re-homing centre in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Years of unhealthy eating has left her over three times the weight she should be - she tipped the scales at 58kg, when she should be 18-20kg - and now she has been forced to go on a strict diet by staff, who say that she faces the same health problems as an obese human.

Photo of Cassie, what a big girl

Staff at the centre had to fight back tears as they were greeted by the unbelievable sight before finding out the obese animal had never eaten any dog food and instead woofed down sweets, chocolate, crisps, and fry-ups.

They have now been given the task of helping Cassie, who weighs as much as a snow leopard and even teen sensation Justin Bieber, to slim down so she can be re-homed with a loving family but fear it will take them at least a year.

The hefty hound, who is too fat to stand up to eat and suffers painful bed  sores all over her body from lying down too often, lived alone with her elderly  female owner - who regularly served her gut-busting treats like fish and chips  on Fridays and full roast dinners on Sundays.

She Almost Filmed Her Own Death

The film clip is only 40 seconds long, but it's already a contender for the scariest car crash video ever.

And amazingly, the driver who filmed a six-foot long plank flying through her windscreen on her phone camera, escaped without a scratch.

Since Wendy Cobb posted it on YouTube there have been a million views of the terrifying moment the piece of wood struck her Kia Sedona minivan.

Scary: The wheels of the trailer in front are filmed hitting the wooden plank on the side of the road..

... sending the 6ft long plank rocketing towards the minivan driven by Wendy Cobb in Shelby, North Carolina...

....before it smashes through the windscreen. Astonishingly, Wendy was unscathed by the incident

The heart-stopping drama came as 40-year-old Wendy drove alone along the highway in Shelby, North Carolina on April 1.

But the incident which has been confirmed by local police, was no joke for her.

She told Jalopnik: 'I don't know why I didn't scream or cuss or cry, I guess just pure shock. I could barely form words to call 911.'

Wendy was filming the illegal antics of two two trucks playing 'cat and mouse' and holding up traffic when the accident.

She had intended to send the footage to the truck companies owners.

For 32 seconds the film calmly follows the vehicles until the one with a trailer hits the plank - one of several lying by the road - and it rockets through her screen.

Jalopnik quoted Wendy: 'When the truck in front of me hit it, and then his trailer hit it, it just propelled it into me.

'I most definitely know how lucky I was. Damage was mostly the hood and windshield, again, very lucky.'

Be a Lie Detector

Most of human's life time are spent by lying, even lying to the others or lying to their own self. However mouth (Verbal Language) can tell the lies, body language always tells the truth. There are some unique body reactions when people are lying.

Nonverbal communication, such as Body Language, reacted by subconcious mind. Because of when someone is not telling the truth, their nonverbal behavior speaks volumes.

There are some ways to spot a liar :

Liar can't talk fluently when they are lying
You know, such as too much using "ummm....", "...", "err..". And they always trying to misdirect the topics of the conversation.

Eyes never lie
"Eyes are speaker in trust". When someone try to lie, they always try to avoid eye contact. Another thing a liar will do is look down rather than up. Studies have shown that when we're trying to recall something we look up (and to the right I think) whereas if we're lying we look down whilst we think what to say next.

Never stop moving, and hard to calm down
Look at their body movement! Never stop of making a movement. Look at their hands! Their hand wringing/palm rubbing; it's as if they're trying to wash the lie off themselves. Touch their nose frequently, grab their ear, try to cover their mouth.

Collar Pulling
A Liar pull their collar sometimes. Pulling collar can means "It's hot here" or "Oh My Gosh! They will know the truth!"

Moaning
A person who lies will generally be more downbeat about what they're saying with negative statements and moaning rather than being upbeat and cheery.

A question that never be answered
Some questions which you asked to a liar, won't be answered. Because of the liar afraid of they will blow their lie if answer your question.

NO ONE CAN LIE TO THEIR SELF!

The First Ever Potrait of Jesus?

One of the ancient metal book's page that found in a cave

The image is eerily familiar: a bearded young man with flowing curly hair. After lying for nearly 2,000 years hidden in a cave in the Holy Land, the fine detail is difficult to determine. But in a certain light it is not difficult to interpret the marks around the figure’s brow as a crown of thorns.

The extraordinary picture of one of the recently discovered hoard of up to 70 lead codices – booklets – found in a cave in the hills overlooking the Sea of Galilee is one reason Bible historians are clamouring to get their hands on the ancient artefacts.

If genuine, this could be the first-ever portrait of Jesus Christ, possibly even created in the lifetime of those who knew him.

Cows That Produce 'Human' Breast Milk

By Daily Mail Reporter

Scientists in China have created genetically modified cows that produce 'human' milk, it is reported today.
They have introduced human genes into dairy cows to produce milk similar to human breast milk, according to a report in The Sunday Telegraph.

The researchers believe that milk from these herds of 300 cows can provide an alternative to human breast milk and formula milk for babies, which is often criticised as being an inferior substitute.

British scientists said the development had the potential to be of huge benefit, but the work is likely to inflame opposition to genetically modified foods, said the newspaper.

Researcher Professor Ning Li, director of the State Key Laboratories for AgroBiotechnology at the China Agricultural University, said the milk would be as safe as milk from ordinary dairy cows.

He added: 'The milk tastes stronger than normal milk. Within ten years, people will be able to pick up these products at the supermarket.'

The rules on research into genetically modified food are more relaxed in China than in Europe, the newspaper reported.

Professor Li said the research showed that it was possible to 'humanise' cows.

'Our study describes transgenic cattle whose milk offers similar nutritional benefits as human milk,' he was quoted as saying.

'The modified bovine milk is a possible substitute for human milk. It fulfilled the conception of humanising the bovine milk.

The researchers reportedly used cloning technology to introduce human genes into the DNA of dairy cows before the genetically modified embryos were implanted into surrogate cows.

Researchers said they were able to create cows that produced milk containing a human protein called lysozyme, which helps to protect infants from bacterial infections during their early days of life.

They have also created cows that produce another protein from human milk called lactoferrin, which helps to boost the number of immune cells in babies.

But the development has raised concern among GM opponents.

GeneWatch UK director Helen Wallace told the newspaper: 'We have major concerns about this research.
'There are welfare issues with genetically modified animals as you get high numbers of stillbirths.

'There is a question about whether milk from these cows is going to be safe for humans and it is really hard to tell that unless you do large clinical trials like you would a drug, so there will be uncertainty about whether it could be harmful to some people.

'Ethically there are issues about mass producing animals this way.'

Metal Books, The Biggest Find Since The Deep Sea Scrolls (?)

For scholars of faith and history, it is a treasure trove too precious for price.

This ancient collection of 70 tiny books, their lead pages bound with wire, could unlock some of the secrets of the earliest days of Christianity.

Academics are divided as to their authenticity but say that if verified, they could prove as pivotal as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947.

On pages not much bigger than a credit card, are images, symbols and words that appear to refer to the Messiah and, possibly even, to the Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Adding to the intrigue, many of the books are sealed, prompting academics to speculate they are actually the lost collection of codices mentioned in the Bible’s Book Of Revelation.

The books were discovered five years ago in a cave in a remote part of Jordan to which Christian refugees are known to have fled after the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD. Important documents from the same period have previously been found there.

Initial metallurgical tests indicate that some of the books could date from the first century AD.

This estimate is based on the form of corrosion which has taken place, which experts believe would be impossible to achieve artificially.

If the dating is verified, the books would be among the earliest Christian documents, predating the writings of St Paul.

The prospect that they could contain contemporary accounts of the final years of Jesus’s life has excited scholars – although their enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that experts have previously been fooled by sophisticated fakes.

David Elkington, a British scholar of ancient religious history and archeology, and one of the few to have examined the books, says they could be ‘the major discovery of Christian history’.

‘It is a breathtaking thought that we have held these objects that might have been held by the early saints of the Church,’ he said.

But the mysteries between their ancient pages are not the books’ only riddle. Today, their whereabouts are also something of a mystery. After their discovery by a Jordanian Bedouin, the hoard was subsequently acquired by an Israeli Bedouin, who is said to have illegally smuggled them across the border into Israel, where they remain.

However, the Jordanian Government is now working at the highest levels to repatriate and safeguard the collection. Philip Davies, emeritus professor of biblical studies at Sheffield University, said there was powerful evidence that the books have a Christian origin in plates cast into a picture map of the holy city of Jerusalem.

‘As soon as I saw that, I was dumbstruck,’ he said. ‘That struck me as so obviously a Christian image. There is a cross in the foreground, and behind it is what has to be the tomb [of Jesus], a small building with an opening, and behind that the walls of the city.
‘There are walls depicted on other pages of these books too and they almost certainly refer to Jerusalem. It is a Christian crucifixion taking place outside the city walls.’

The British team leading the work on the discovery fears that the present Israeli ‘keeper’ may be looking to sell some of the books on to the black market, or worse – destroy them.

But the man who holds the books denies the charge and claims they have been in his family for 100 years.

Dr Margaret Barker, a former president of the Society for Old Testament Study, said: ‘The Book of Revelation tells of a sealed book that was opened only by the Messiah.

‘Other texts from the period tell of sealed books of wisdom and of a secret tradition passed on by Jesus to his closest disciples. That is the context for this discovery.’

Professor Davies said: ‘The possibility of a Hebrew-Christian origin is certainly suggested by the imagery and, if so, these codices are likely to bring dramatic new light to our understanding of a very significant but so far little understood period of history.’

Mr Elkington, who is leading British efforts to have the books returned to Jordan, said: ‘It is vital that the collection can be recovered intact and secured in the best possible circumstances, both for the benefit of its owners and for a potentially fascinated international audience.’

*British scientists have uncovered up to eight million mummified dogs, thought to have been sacrificed to Anubis, the god of the dead, 2500 years ago after excavating tunnels in the ancient Eygptian city of Saqqara.

Color Philosophy
Color Selection is one thing that is very important in determining the response from visitors. Color is the first thing seen by a visitor (especially the background color), and you can make your site to display a first color while the other content (text and image) are still in the process of downloading. This will make an impression or mood for the entire site.

To achieve an effective color design, can be started by choosing colors that can represent the goal of your site. Color pallet that you create should fit with the personal and the purpose of your site. If for example your site is for community sites, then you should choose the color of warm colors to create a more relaxed atmosphere.

If your site is for information sites, where content will dominate, then the colors should be simple and unobtrusive (ie do not use background kembang2 with flashy colors.)

You can see in Table 1 below, for general psychological correlation between color and people.

Psychological response COLORNote the Red Power, energy, warmth, love, lust, aggression, danger sometimes change the meaning of the Red Color when combined with other color .- Red dikombinakan with Green, it will become a symbol of Christmas when combined premises .- Red White, will have a sense of 'happy 'in the Oriental culture.

Blue Trust, Conservative, Security, Technology, Hygiene, Regularity Widely used as a color in the logo of the Bank in the United States to give the impression of 'trust'.

Green Natural, Healthy, Lucky, Renewal Color Green is not too 'success' for Global size. In China and France, the packaging with the color green is not so get sambutan.Tetapi in the Middle East, the color green is very popular.

Yellow Optimism, Hope, Philosophy, The lack of honesty, Coward (for Western culture), betrayal. Yellow is the color of sacred in Hinduism.

Purple / Orange Spiritual, Mystery, nobility, transformation, roughness, Pride Color Purple very rare in nature.

Orange Energy, Balance, Kehangantan Emphasizing a product that is not expensive.

Brown Land / Earth, Reliability, Comfort, Durability. Food packaging in the U.S. often use the color brown and very successful, but in Columbia, Brown color for packaging is less so bring hasil.Abu Abu Intellect, Future (like the color of the Millennium), Simplicity, Sorrow Abu ash color is the color of the most easy / easy seen by the eye.

White Purity, cleanliness, accuracy, lack awry, Setril, Death In America, White symbolizes marriage (white wedding gown), but in many Eastern cultures (especially India and China), White color symbolizes death.

Black Power, Sexuality, Sophistication, Death, Mystery, Fear, Grief, elegance symbolizes the culture of death and grief in color Barat.Sebagai Packaging, Black melambangakan elegance (Elegance), Prosperity (wealth) and sophistication (Sopiscated)

Not only is your color palette match the content of the site, but you also have to choose colors that fit with the culture of your visitors. Some studies showed that the response of each person from different cultures will be different.

For example, the color of Orange, universally, will represent products that are not expensive, and the celebration of Halloween.

In America, Dark Blue color represents the Trust (TRUST), but in Korea, the Trust is more Pastel colors represented by color, especially Pink.

So the use of color matching, must also be supported by an understanding of what it means COLOR is the demographics of visitors who we are headed. (For example, sites with Light Yellow color in Indonesia, may be associated with a particular political party). Now we try to bereksperiment with 2 sites fictitious.

The first, is the Bank of Credit Sale, is a site whose purpose bank providing information about the Bank's color palette that will be used including the Blue, Dark Red, and White (See table below)

Objective is to build an impression Conservatives and Confidence (with blue color), strength (Red), and the work ethic and discipline (White). Globally, the color of this color will be enough to build an image of a company that is solid and trustworthy.

The second is a fictitious site Senayan kindergarten, which is a Kindergarten. With a target 'Not Serious', and Cheerful, the selected color palette is the energy and warmth (orange), natural and health (Green Light), and cheerful (Yellow).

Ps. Do not assume toekangweb.or.id that have similar color scheme is similar not-so serious! Now compare both of them: the color palette on the left symbolize konservativ and trust, power, precision, and regularity while the color palette on the right symbolizes the warmth, energy, nature, and kesehatan.Red: 0, Green: 51; Blue: 102; Red: 25 ;

Green: 103; Blue: 0; Red: 153; Green: 0; Blue: 0; Red: 102; Green: 204; Blue: 0; Red, Green, Blue: 255 Red: 0; Green: 102; Blue: 204 ; Note: These colors can be another keliatannya on Macintosh or PC monitor.

Although the use of color is not limited in the color key color, but color is the main color to express quickly 'objective' of this site.
